Iraq, India sign agreement and strengthen bilateral ties

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Iraq and India signed a memorandum of understanding on Tuesday for bilateral cooperation in many fields, according to a statement cited by the Iraqi News Agency (INA).

A statement issued by the Iraqi Ministry of Oil mentioned that the Minister of Oil, Hayan Abdul-Ghani, signed the memorandum of understanding with the Indian Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, in the Indian capital, New Delhi.

Abdul-Ghani explained that Iraq considers India an important trading partner, especially as it represents a rapidly growing economic and industrial power.

The Iraqi Oil Minister revealed that both countries are keen to promote bilateral cooperation through the activation of the memorandum of understanding, which includes cooperation in areas of trade, finance, energy, economy, industries, science, health, agriculture, culture, and other sectors, according to the statement.

The Indian Minister of Petroleum stated that Iraqi-Indian relations are witnessing a significant development, the statement illustrated.

Puri reaffirmed the historical ties between Iraq and India, emphasizing India’s commitment to remain a significant trade ally for Iraq. He expressed eagerness to enhance and expand these relations across various domains.

The Indian official added that Indian companies are interested in carrying out important projects in Iraq.
